Histopathology PT Scheme

Proficiency testing in Histopathology scheme is based on sample review in which participating labs are required to send 1 x PAS and 1 x H&E slides for evaluation.

Medical labs can make certain patient safety by participating in NEQAPP PT Schemes.

Laboratory results guide up to 70% of clinical decisions. Errors can lead to misdiagnosis, wrong treatment, delayed care, or harm. Maintaining patient safety ensures trust, quality care, and compliance with healthcare standards.

Why choose?

Peer Review

Qualified histopathologists review qulaity of slides.

Description

Our scheme is designed to assess how you process and analyse patient slides as part of your routine daily procedures, from fixation through to cover slipping of stained sections.

Transportation

  1. Labeling: Clearly label each slide with the Lab name, NEQAPP ID, and Cycle and Round name using a solvent-resistant marker or pen on the frosted end.
  2. Primary Container (Slide Holder): Place slides into a rigid plastic or stiff cardboard slide mailer/holder. Ensure slides do not touch each other and are placed in separate slots.
  3. Secure the Slides: Add paper towels, cotton, or foam inside the container to prevent the slides from rattling or shifting during transit.
  4. Seal the Primary Container: Tape the slide holder securely with adhesive tape (e.g., masking tape) to prevent accidental opening.
  5. Secondary Packaging (Protection): Wrap the sealed slide container tightly in bubble wrap and place it into a sealed, leak-proof, and shatter-proof container (such as a sealable biohazard plastic bag).
  6. Outer Container: Place the secondary package into a sturdy, rigid cardboard box.
  7. Dispatch: Send the final package to the NEQAPP Office for evaluation.

Preparation

  • It is important to process the PT slides in the same way as patient slides, that will be submitted for proficiency testing
